Hardship in the Pacific

28 March 2014

The World Bank has released the latest video in their Praxis discussion series, focusing on hardship in the Pacific (‘hardship’ apparently being the politically correct word for poverty in the Pacific).

The panel discussion features Rex Horoi, Executive Director for the Foundation of the Peoples of the South Pacific International (FSPI); David Abbott, Economic Development Specialist and Truman Packard, Lead Economist, Human Development Sector at The World Bank.

The discussion touches on topics such as understandings of poverty in the region and the changing nature of risk. It also looks at the new World Bank report, ‘Hardship and Vulnerability in the Pacific Island Countries‘.

Truman and colleague Kyla Wethli recently spoke at a Development Policy Centre event to launch this report in Canberra. You can listen to the audio podcast of that discussion here and view the presentations here.
