Comms for dev: big potential in the Pacific?

The latest video from the World Bank’s Praxis Discussion Series looks at information technology and communications for development in the Pacific.

It is an interesting discussion, touching on a wide range of potential applications for new technologies for managing disaster risk, improving service delivery and data collection, and mobilising coalitions for change. It  also covers critical questions such as infrastructure challenges, costs, regulatory frameworks and how to gather evidence to support effective program delivery in this field.

One of the panelists in the Praxis discussion, Sarah Logan, will be speaking at our upcoming Development Policy Centre event, Texts, tweets and social change: how can communications transform development?, on July 30. We’ll also have two panelists joining us from Internews, a leading international NGO working on media development and information access. Dr Nicholas Farrelly from the New Mandala blog and ANU’s School of International, Political and Strategic Studies will also be participating. We hope to see you there. If you can’t attend and have a question you’d like us to consider, comment below or tweet @devpolicy.
