Canberra MP Gai Brodtmann today told the Canberra Times that AusAID staff had no idea how many jobs would go or where in Canberra they would be working after the merger into DFAT.
Brodtmann asked why there were no women on the five-member steering committee overseeing the amalgamation and said that a professional change-manager should be running the process.
Meanwhile, Crikey reported on the ‘humiliating’ AusAID all-staff meeting with the DFAT secretary last Friday, and MP Warren Entsch is calling for AusAID staff, among others, to move to ‘Cairnsberra’. The northern Queensland MP says that agency staff working on development in the Asia-Pacific region would be closer to the action if they worked from Cairns.
